NYSUT: You can't just raise the cut scores
After dramatically raising the cut scores for grades 3-8 ELA and math exams, the State Education Department last week released -- no surprises here -- significantly lower results for students in virtually every school district. Newspapers across the state reported "plummeting" test scores, but the reality is that students performed about the same as last year, once the change in scoring is taken into account.
